General information
William Gill was involved in the transport industry in New Zealand for over 70 years. He established William Gill Limited in Auckland in 1924 and in 1954 (thirty years later), he founded William Gill & Sons Ltd in Huntly.
Commer and Dodge trucks were our first line of business and we soon developed a widespread reputation as a company who stood behind everything we sold 100%. As a consequence, the demand for our service increased and came from further afield.
William Gill & Sons Ltd’s expertise in truck sales and service was recognised by Todd Motors in 1972 (who had just acquired the Mitsubishi franchise in New Zealand) when they appointed William Gill & Sons Ltd as Mitsubishi dealers.
Our Manukau City branch was opened in 1978 to service an already large customer base in the Auckland region. Up until 2009 we enjoyed being one of New Zealand’s top sellers of Mitsubishi trucks. This came to a halt when Mitsubishi decided to rationalise their Mitsubishi truck dealers around New Zealand. This lead to an opportunity with Hyundai NZ so we are now the commercial Hyundai vehicle dealer for the upper North Island.
