Our History

Holidaying in Nelson and sporting goods have long been a requirement of kiwi summers, but not usually associated with the creation of one of New Zealand’s leading sporting wholesalers….until now. The summer of 1964 – 65 saw Lyn Jenkins and her family accommodated at the same hotel as the first touring Pakistan cricket team, with the result of a friendship renewed several years later when one of the men contacted Lyn with the hope of importing cricket equipment to New Zealand. Several trips between New Zealand and Pakistan ensued, contacts made and remade, great sporting goods discovered, researched and tested – and Supasport was born.

Originally working out of overcrowded basements and cars, in 1998, the decision was made to move to St Asaph Street in the centre of Christchurch, with a showroom and room for development. The showroom and warehouse quickly proved too small for this expanding business that from the beginning had dealt with schools and clubs around the country as well as locals on the search for quality sports goods.

In February 2005, Supasport moved premises to the corner of St Asaph St and Fitzgerald Ave, a space seemingly large enough for any expansion or direction that the company could take. The larger showroom and storage allowed for the development of our fitness and training equipment, with a hire facility being added for this new side of Supasport.

In February 2011, this building was severely damaged in the earthquake with considerable liquifaction and we had to relocate to a warehouse at 373 St Asaph St, between Fitzgerald Ave and Barbadoes St.
